I'm running Outlook 2000 with service pack 3 for office
and sp4 for win2kpro. Everytime I try to exit outlook, it
closes, but has the "outlook is exiting" thing on the
desktop and i can't get rid of it unless I use the task
manager and force it to end the task. I also noticed that
if I leave it there, I am able to open up outlook again,
but the old one will still be stuck there.
Any suggestions?

THanks.

I just started having the same problem, too. I have a
desktop and a laptop and outlook hangs on exit on both
machines since yesterday. Hope someone knows what the
hell is going on.

It started with me the other day as well. I run Outlook2000 Sp3 at home and
Outlook 2003 at office. Problem started a couple of days after installing
OL2003.

Just wondering if you found out what's going on...

It seems once the user opens outlook with o2k3, the goes back to o2k,
it hangs when exiting...
any solutions?

I am suffering from this as well, and haven't yet found any solution.

I am reluctant to deleting my exchange account and create it again
just to solve this issue. It must be fixable.

I can add, that whenever I have started OL2003, and then start Outlook
2000, I get a message stating that 'the current view is damaged' - I
can only cloick 'ok' to it. Then the 'size' field I have added is
gone, and I have to remove the preview pane etc.

Could be something with OL trying to save a view that it doesn't
understand.
any solutions?

Unfortunately, no.

See if starting Outlook 2000 with the /cleanfreebusy switch lets you
exit Outlook 2000 cleanly. And never create rules using Outlook 2003
or convert your Outlook 2000 rules if you ever intend to open the same
mailbox using both versions.

Outlook 2003 added a 4th field to free/busy information and Outlook
2000 can't handle it correctly.

I have this same problem. The /cleanfreebusy switch did not work for me.

I have certainly created rules with OL2003, and also use the Junk mail
filter. If this is now incompatible with OL2000, then it sounds as though an
OL2000 patch is required, as surely it is not uncommon to have users sharing
a mailbox.

On a hunch, I disabled the Norton Anti-Spam portion of Norton Internet
Security 2004. Now, when the one copy of Outlook 2003 is closed, the taskbar
icon also closes. No more error messages at the Windows XP exit.

AFAIK the Junk filter isn't a problem since it only works when you are
using cached mode against your OST and it hasn't been a problem for
dual access using Outlook 2000 and 2003 on the same mailbox. Only
those items I mentioned.
