I'm using outlook 2000. Whenever I try to close out my
outlook, it will not exit. I have to use Task Manager to
end it. Any Advice??

Do you mean its windows remain onscreen? Or do you mean that the window
closes but the outlook.exe process remains loaded and can be seen listed in
Task Manager's Process tab?

In the former case, check what add-ins you have installed in Outlook.
Tools -> Options -> Other -> Advanced (I think since this is from memory).
Check what add-ins or plug-ins have been installed. You can uncheck them to
disable them (rather than uninstall them) to see if a later reload of
Outlook and exit works okay. If so, one of those add-ins is hanging. On
exit, Outlook must wait for the add-ins to unload before it can unload (and
same for when it loads). You can also try starting Outlook in safe mode
("outlook.exe /safe") which will not load any add-ins to see if an exit
works okay.

In the latter case, the problem of Outlook hanging during its exit and
leaving behind a remnant process is a long-time defect that Microsoft has
not yet fixed even in OL2003. If I notice problems with a subsequent load
of Outlook, a flashing mouse cursor, problems in Explorer, or other file
problems, I check Task Manager to then kill the outlook.exe process that
never completed its unload. The same defect occurs with Word (winword.exe).
It would be nice if Microsoft would first inform the dispatcher that the
application wants to close and then do its cleanup so if it hangs then the
dispatcher would kill the process anyway (or tell you about it). Again,
add-ins can cause this problem, too. For now, check Task Manager after
attempting to close Outlook (wait 30 seconds for it to [try to] complete its
unload) and kill any remnant copies of outlook.exe. There may be more than
one stuck copy. If you have been running Word or using it as the Outlook
compose editor then also check and kill and remnant winword.exe process(es).

I also have the same problem and still looking for a
solution. It's happening only of 2 of my pc's in the
network and both are compaq machines, one is a laptop EVO
computer and the other one is a EVO desktop computer.

I have several other EVO's on my network and all are
working fine exept for those 2.

I have to close the application from the task manager as
well to get it to close completely.
