I have a VPN connection and I am trying to set up Outlook
to receive my mail off my jobs exchange server. I also
want to continue to use my internet email. How can this
be done?

Have you talked to your Exchange Admin for how s/he has VPN configured?

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

No I have not talk to my exchange admin on my VPN. I
connect through a router with my companies access codes.

1) Find out if your company has a policy concerning downloading your
personal Internet mail into your Exchange mailbox
2) Talk to your IT people to find out if their VPN config blocks
non-VPN-connection traffic when the VPN tunnel is established. Many do this
for security - otherwise, if your home computer/network is compromised, and
you have access to the corporate network, the intruders can do what they
like on your company's network.
