Last night when I shut down MS updates were available so I let it run. This
morning when I went to Outlook it said it had to start for the first time but
I have been using it for years. Also there was a small window showing some
e-mail files were being moved to a new folder. I killed the program via Task
Master. Can anyone tell what is going on. I don’t want to lose a bunch of
files…..

Examine your hard drive for any file(s) with a .pst extension. Note the
date on what you find. Open Outlook and if it wants to go through the
configuration for first run, allow it to complete. Then, use
File->Open->Outlook Data File, navigate to the .pst file you located and
open it. If it has all of your Outlook data, make it the default .pst file
and close the new one that Outlook just created.

To add to this: This has happened to multiple computers within my
organization over the weekend.

The same thing happened to several computers in our organization this
morning. Was this because of an update sent out by Microsoft, would
like confirmation on this.

You can consider it aconfirmed non-issue. This is caused by the application
of the latest Office Service Pack. You can customize the message to be more
specifically detailed. But unfortunately, the default message displayed is a
bit inaccurate for a post-Service Pack install.
