outlook today style

Windows XP Pro, Office 2003 Pro: can't change the style of the Outlook Today
Page (when I go to another page and go back, it always returns to the
standard view) and it displays an X where it is supposed to be a small graphic
 
Furthermore, I forgot, I have the same problem as another user (but the
answer he got was not helpful, I suppose):
I have six or so little empty boxes on my Outlook Today screen.
What are they?

It has nothing to do with e-mail, they just appear in the standard Outlook
Today Page, near in the middle of the screen.
HELP!
