I'm really at my wits end. When I left my old job they
burned a cd for me of all my Outlook messages, contacts
etc. but when I tried to load the .pst files on to my
laptop at home I quickly found it I wasn't able to as I
only have Outlook Express.

I now live in another country and not able to ask my old
IT dept for help. Does anyone know what can be done now?
I've posted this question on a chat site before and the
responses I receive always related to transferring OE
files to Outlook. I am trying to go the other way i.e.
converting Outlook files to be read on to Outlook
Express. I know Outlook files are .pst files and think OE
files are different but don't know how to convert them.

I think people in the past have said that at this point
it would be impossible, short of finding someone with
Outlook, reloading the .pst files on there and then
exporting them to a cd instead of just copying them but I
don't know anyone with Outlook at home.

There must be something that can be done! Totally
appreciate it if someone would have any advice or
suggestions.

Many thanks.

You'd probably get a better response posting to an OE ng, I believe they
come under the IE section
If in OE you can import a pst (OL file) copy frm cd to hd, ensure read only
is off,then import.
I dont use OE so dont know if it has this function

In order to use the .pst file that you have, it has to be imported
onto a computer that has Outlook installed. You could then import the
data from Outlook into Outlook Express, then copy that info onto a CD
and import it into the version of Outlook Express that's on your
computer. That's the only way that you're going to be able to make any
use of the .pst file that you have a copy of.

Sorry if it seems like an obvious question but when you
say "You could then import the data from Outlook into
Outlook Express..."... this means I have to find someone
with Outlook AND Outlook Express on their computer? I
thought you couldn't import .pst files in to OE from
Outlook.

Thanks for responding.

'Fraid so - you must have Outlook and OE installed on the same machine in
order to import a pst file into OE.

Yes, it does. Outlook Express cannot import from a Personal Folders file
directly. From what I can tell, its "Microsoft Outlook" import requests the
messages from Outlook; it doesn't read the pst.
