Outlook stopped sending without Send/Receive

Outlook used to send immediately when I hit the Send button on the email
window. Now it just goes into my Outbox folder and waits for me to hit
Send/Receive. I of course don't think to do so and the message sits there.
Can't see anything wrong with settings, but don't find a setting that jumps
out at me as being the right one.

You've provided no relevant information.
Include:
Outlook version
Mail Account type
Connection type for your mail account(s)
Is "Send Immediately when connected" enabled in Tools > Options > Mail
Setup?
Automatic Send/Receive settings
Online/Offline settings in the File menu
The changes you made that stopped immediate Send/Receive

Sorry for lack of info. But YOU provided relevent info. I checked all the
Options & everything looked great & looked for connection settings within
the Tools file, but I didn't look in File . . . somehow it got set to Work
Offline.

Sorry for the waste of time.

That's because they placed it right above File > Exit--the most used command
in Outlook. Poor design. With one careless click it's very easy to set
yourself to Work Offline and not even know it.
