Suddenly, MS Outlook will remain connected to my ISP email server even though
I have exited the program. What could be causing this?

Are you using another application, which keeps Outlook open, such as a
program that synchs with your PDA, perhaps?

SgtRich,
No, I am not using a PDA. It was suggested I disable my email scan option
in Norton. I have done so but it is still happening. This started about a
week ago. I have not made any changes to my system. I am still on XP SR1.

Any clues?

Well, something is keeping Outlook open after you try to close it. There is
no way for me to know what else could be on your system that would be using
Outlook and keeping it open. After you close Outlook, do a Ctrl-Alt-Delete
and see if Outlook is still listed as being open.
