Outlook shutting down after splash-screen

We are having a problem that is affecting several of our PC's in the office,
in a seemingly random fashion.

When certain users start outlook, they get as far as seeing the blank main
window with the Splash-screen in front of it, then Outlook simply shuts
down. No errors, just dissapears.

The closest KB article I've found is 305928 "OL2000: Outlook 2000 Stops
Responding at the Startup Splash Screen"
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305928) but whilst
deleting the dat files does seem to fix the problem and allow users to log
in, it will re-occur the next day, or when they next log in (not sure
which). Sometimes rebooting the PC helps, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes
just re-trying Outlook helps, but usually not.

The rather inconsistent nature of the symptoms is thwarting me at the
moment, but it is happening on several PC's in the office.

Any ideas?

thanks,

Mark

Hmm. Curious. I'll check the key, but to be honest I doubt this is the
cause. Most of these were installed from a network installation point using
a site-key, and this has only just started happening in the last week or
two - no major office updates have been installed in this time.

I'll check the keys anyway, just to be sure...

thanks,

Mark

Still, it's the onyx cause of Outlook 2000's quitting immediately with no
messages that I've seen documented.

lol, well I'm never surprised at any of the symptoms, causes or solutions,
so I will certainly try it. Stranger things have been known in the past!

thanks
