Outlook should support smooth scrolling to view e-mail headers.

It's annoying that smooth scrolling was in the free Outlook Express, but not
in the paid version, what's up with that?

Outlook Express and Outlook are different applications written by different
teams. Outlook is not a "paid version" of Outlook Express and you shouldn't
expect them to behave the same way.

Besides, what do you mean by "smooth scrolling"? All Windows windows scroll
as smoothly as you wish using the scroll bar.

You sound a little angry through your choice of words. I mean when you drag
the scroll bar the e-mail headers scroll as you drag the mouse, not update
when you let go of the left click. Smooth Scrolling was a term made during
Windows 95, when computers weren't fast enough to update on the fly so it was
a choice, but now it is a standard. But obviously not for the Outlook team. I
don't care if it was made by different teams, the feature should have been
there. Also Outlook Express is a cheapo version of Outlook. I don't see any
way around that fact.

How can I "sound" angry when you cannot hear me?

I'm still unsure of what you term "smooth scrolling". It's been far too
long since I used Windows 95, but I don't recall any specific behavior
differences in scrolling. Some versions of the Intellipoint software had to
be told about Outlook when the wheel what used for scrolling, but I don't
recall any other specific differences.
But obviously not for the Outlook team. I don't care if it was made

Perhaps you'll get a response because of your "suggestion".

Here you're flat-out wrong whether or not you can see any way around it.
They're as different as Word and Excel or, perhaps a better analogy, Word
and Wordpad. You don't call Wordpad a "cheapo version" of Word, do you?

That is why I said "thorugh your choice of words". I knew you were going to
point that out. But you know what I mean so that is the important part.
"Perhaps you'll get a response because of your "suggestion".

It sure is a suggestion, because it is not there. If you quoted suggestion
because of the tone of my message, it was because for some reason I got a
negative tone when I read your reply. Like my feature suggestion was 100%
useless and not valid.

I have a post about "Smooth Scrolling" in microsoft.public.outlook which one
user that agress with me and seems to understand when I posted this.

"I want to know if their is an option to view have smooth scrolling so that
as
I drag the scroll bar the respective window dynamically updates as I scroll.
Now, it waits till I let go to update the contents of the respective window."

By the way, I do think that Wordpad is LIKE free version of Word. If
I'm not mistaken Outlook Express and Outlook have almost the same name.
Express added for people who don't need all of the same doodads as Outlook.

I quoted "suggestion" because of the way you posted, using a web interface
instead of a newsreader. Doing it the way you did generates a message
Microsoft calls a "suggestion". I wasn't commenting on the content.

Ah. Now I understand. Thanks. Alas, however, I simple cannot reproduce
the behavior, so it's obviously something specific to _your_ installation
and not a general Outlook issue at all.

The choice by Microsoft to name Outlook Express as it did was, some agree,
unfortunate but it still doesn't imply the two products are related, any
more than Wordpad's name implies it's related to Word.

That's really weird that it could be an problem specific to my installation.
I have Office 2003 by the way with the latest SP2 Update.

As do I.

Yes, it appears to be a bug (and annoying to me, since I'm used to having
this feature in other email programs)

The reason I call it a "bug" is that you can actually get it to do smooth
scrolling if you madly click and double click on the scroll bar. I haven't
been able to get an exact list of what clicks are necessary to turn it on,
but usually after about 4 to 10 clicks it will start working. I found that
double clicking on the scroll bar and then resizing the preview pane or
turning a message flag on, or just grabbing the scroll bar, it would start
working.

once it starts working, it works until you close out of outlook.

try it. if you can get the technique down, then it's not too hard to do it
each morning when opening outlook for the first time.

Hey guys,

I have the same problem as well :(
And it's really anoying.
This happened to my microsoft word 2003 as well but I fixed it.
Now I forgot how and where I got the info from :(

Someone help me and Gargantula please
Thanks,

Henry.

what mouse are you using? Whether or not it scrolls is a side effect of the
mouse software.

I don't think it's the mouse, I think it's the setting O_o".
When I first installed Microsoft Office Professional 2003 it didn't do this.
But after 1 day it happened O_o how weird!
I didn't touch the setting at all :|

it's not a setting - it either scrolls or it doesn't. Logitech and MS
drivers handle it differently as do touch pads. Rolling with the wheel or
using the up and down arrows on the scroll bar instead of dragging the
scroll makes a difference too.

It's a tiny feature that makes outlook so much easier to use - when it works
that is!!!!

I've also found this 'bug' to be on-and-off. Minimising and then reopening
outlook usually sorts it out, but why doesn't it work properly to start with?
