Outlook should give me a total number of contacts in a distributi.

In Outlook 2000 Distribution lists gave a total number of contacts on the
list. This was helpful as some IP s limit the number of addresses you can
send at one time as they try to counter SPAM. In Outlook 2003 the only way I
can determine how many addresses I have is to count them manually.
 
I believe they forgot to include the Status Bar in the dialog box for DL's
in Outlook 2003, so there's no longer any way to do this.
I don't think they really intended for us to use DL's in real life. Most of
us have looked for better solutions, like Categories or Contact Subfolders.
 
Well even if one does not use DLs and you do a View/Arrange by/Custom/Filter
for specific criteria I can not find anywhere that it gives you a total count
of your results. The only place I have seen any counts is either in your
total number of contacts on the bottom left of screen or when you do a 'sort
by category'.

Does anyone know of any way to get a count of filtered contacts?

Modify the view to group on a field where all the items have the same
value -- e.g. Mileage (If you've never used it for anything, it will be
blank.) You can then read off the number of items in the group header.
