Outlook seems to pause/freeze once in a while while reading e-mails.

Hello!

Sometimes I am navigating around in Outlook 2003 SP2 (all updates) to
find and read e-mails at work, and I get freezes/pauses. I believe my
HDD is busy and happen when the e-mail has one attachment or more.

I keep a lot of e-mails and organize them into separate folders. I don't
keep all my e-mails in the Inbox folder like some people do. I am using
Windows XP Pro. SP2 (all updates). When I first started using Outlook a
few months ago, it was fast and had no pauses/freezes. Nothing odd in
Event Viewer logs. I think something degraded. I do empty the trash
folder daily, close Outlook daily when not at work, reboot often for
Windows Updates, etc.

With subfolders:
Local Data: 170,065 KB
Server Data: 152,948 KB

I have Symantec AntiVirus v10.1.0.394 and Symantec Client Firewall
v8.7.0.58 running in the background (required to have and use at work).

Any ideas? Is it because I disabled AutoArchive feature (find this
annoying while using the computer)?

Don't Dismiss AutoArchive just yet. Give it a chance! Set your
Settings for AutoArchive in Tools>Options>Autoarchive tab. Then right
click each folder to set your Autoarchive settings for that particular
item in outlook.

As far as the initial problem. When using outlook on an exchange
server, you are limited to the space you've been allotted on the SERVER
not your HDD. I would try creating a new .pst file that save to your
HDD that will store any emails you have on the server currently so that
its not searching through over 150MB of emails on the server (limit is
usulally around 200MB. Here's how to do that in OL2003:

Well, I want to keep all e-mails on server so I can access ALL of my
e-mails from any computers and Webmail.
