Outlook running extremely slow

Hello,

Is there anyone out there who has tips on how to speed up
outlook?

I on on a VPN and until last week Outlook worked fine.
Now it takes five seconds just to open an e-mail and even
longer to switch from E-mail to Contacts.

I've worked with my helpdesk and the issue keeps coming
back. They thought it was the VPN connection but we've
changed that.

Are their processes or items I shouldn't be running in
the system tray that can effect this? I'm on XP
Professional using and IBM T42 with a Pentium IV, 1.7
Ghz, 768Mb RAM.

What version of Outlook?
For all remote users, I recommend using an offline folder, and tell OL to
work offline by default with scheduled syncs in the background. This works a
lot better. And OL2003 and cached mode make this very simple.
