What errors do you get?
What kind of e-mail account do you use?
Can you connect to the SMTP server you use in a telnet session?

1. Open a command prompt (in Win9x, it's start | run | command <enter>; in
NT/2k/XP it's start | run | cmd <enter>
2. Type
telnet my.smtp.server 25 <enter>
See if you can even get to the 'banner', or whether you get an error
message.

Having similar problems but onlt with large files.. tried the check from
Lanwrench
get "could not openconnection withthe host,on port 25: connect failed. Using

OK - call your ISP/mail host. If you can't telnet on port 25, and your
Outlook is using port 25 to connect to your ISP's SMTP server (i.e., the
standard SMTP port, nothing custom, no SSL, etc) there's a problem there.

Re large files - ask your ISP what their message size limit is. And make
sure you find out from your proposed recipient what *their* limits are.
E-mail is not a mechanism for file transfer....

ilarLanwench, ( sorry for spelling your name incorrectly ) I agree it
isn't ideal as a file sharer but the mail went with no problems from "outlook
express" and I recieved the same attachment into "outlook" without a hitch.
But I still don't understand why mail hangs in OUTBOX even though it has been
sent.. This results in multiple mails being sent. And I am sure we all get
those multiple spam mails.... simm reason I wonder?

Major ISP such as SBCYahoo, etc. is starting to block port 25 to all
customers. They do not send notice at all. They do this secretly. So do
not surprise if one day you find that you cannot send email anymore.
Your modem has been loaded with their new driver that blocks all email
trying to get through port 25.

Call your ISP provider. If you scream, you'll get your problem fixed
quickly. If you are nice, you'll probably wait forever.

Probably true - although it's always worth a call.

No - modem or NIC drivers have nothing to do with this - and if your ISP can
change drivers on your workstation you have other, MAJOR, problems.

Being nice always pays off. You can be both persistent and nice at the same
time. Screaming at a first tier tech is simply rude, and is as unwise as
pissing off the waiter before he/she brings you your food. Trust me.

Do you have antivirus software scanning your outgoing messages? It often
results in problems like this, where the message is sent but stays in the
outbox and gets resent again. Disable scanning of outbound messages.
