I moved my outlook file to a my backup hard drive without export my e-mail I just moved the folder Outlook. Now when I try to open Outlook Data file I see the file but it will not open it. Getting the following message outlook1.pst is not a personal folders file. I changed the name from outlook.NK2 to Outlook1.pst. I still have the orginal e-mail that is still on my other hard drive. Thank you for your help in this matter.

The NK2 (autosuggest cache) file is not a PST and just changing its file
type doesn't change its nature.
I still have the
orginal e-mail that is still on my other hard drive.

Then click File>Open>Outlook Data File, browse to it, whereever it is,
select it, and click OK.

The *.NK2 is not a personal folders file, its nicknames for auto complete
You moved the wrong file/folder.
Search yr origonal drive for *.pst , to include hidden files.
No need to export simply copy *pst to wherever on yr hd, ensure you *do not
overwrite* any existing same name pst. Check read only flag is off, then in
OL open the pst

Did you enable searching hidden files and folders when you looked?

I am showing all hidden folders. As of now I am using data recovery to get my old e-mails back. I just have to choose which program to use. Do you recommand any data recovery software. I am using called GetDataBack for NTFS partition.

I can't recall a time when I was desperate to retrieve a deleted file.
Sorry.
