I formatted my hard-drive and backed up my .pst file...

However, now that I have reinstalled Outlook and I try to
open my original .pst file I get an error that
says "outlook.pst is not a personal folders file"

Any ideas????

thanks,

John

Yes, I did back up to CD. And I did uncheck the "read
only" box, but to no avail.

I backed up everything in the Documents and Settings
folder, so I have all the ancellary files, too. Still
can't open...

How did you back up the file? Did you place it on a CD?

What happens when you try to repair the file with the Inbox Repair Tool?

There are no ancellary files. Outlook stores everything (attachments,
contacts, emails, calendars, etc.) in just the one .pst file. This is why
it is not uncommon for .pst files to be hundreds of MB's.
