I changed to a new computer and when I called up my
Outlook program all previous e-mails and folders were not
there. I had slaved my old HDD to the new computer and
through hunt and peck found a large (185kb) .pst file.
How do I access or open it? Are my address book and
folders in this file?

All of your Outlook data (mail, appointments, contacts, tasks, notes, etc.)
should be in that .PST file. Open it in Outlook using File | Open (don't
try to open it using Windows or any other program). It will open in your
Folder List. If you provide your Outlook version, I can tell you how to
make it your default...

I am not sure what version it is but I loaded it as part
of MicroSoft Office 2000 Small Business Version.I tried
as you suggested but have drawn a blank screen, the .pst
has 190.000+ kb so I know something is there.
Any and all help is appreciated

Should I move the file from the old drive to the new
master drive?

The file is in a folder at the end of a string and has
three files in it. An archive, Office Data File with 1875
kb, extend DAT file with 2 kb and the outlook Office
Data File with 190,321 kb

Please describe what you mean by "drawn a blank screen"...what do you have
selected when you see the "blank screen" -- a folder, or...? Is it really
blank or does it say something?

Well I will spell that with a capital DUH. I neglected
to click the drop menus available, what I was looking for
was where you suggested it would be. How do I move from
where it was to the new drive? If I hilight the inbox
from the archive and drag it to the new page do I need to
do anything else?
Jocelyn I really appreciate your help as my address book
and at least 50 unanswered mails were in that file.
Thank you
Dennis

Did you make this .PST file the default, or not? If not, first close it out
of Outlook (right click its root folder in the Folder List and select
Close), then close Outlook, move the .PST file where you want it, reopen
Outlook, and open the .PST from its new location. If you DID make it the
default .PST, you won't be able to close it out of Outlook before you move
it, but that's OK...close Outlook, move the file, and reopen Outlook; it
will complain it can't find the file, and you can point it in the right
direction.

I'm still not sure whether or not you want to use your old (original) .PST
file as the default, or if you want to use a new one and copy data from your
old .PST to it...let me know and I can help you with either one. You'd also
need to tell me what it says at the top of the "About Microsoft Outlook" box
(which you can get to from the Help menu) -- it should say "Outlook 2000"
and then either "Internet Mail Only" or "Corporate/Workgroup".
