Outlook processes spikes every several seconds, slowing perform?

Outlook performance slows when in use. Task manager shows that window
explorer is engaging in activity while Outlook program is running. As
result, Outlook tasks hesitate ie. when writing an emailing and placing a
appointment in calender. In calender, making a change on an appointment will
make it a recurrence. Please help me disable how to disengage whatever is
going on. Thanks.
