My hard drive has developed several bad sectors and at
the same time the Outlook has stopped working to handle
Email. It locks up and is unable to download messages. It
connects and gets through several messages and then the
disc whirrs and eventually times out. I would like to
reinstall from my Microsoft Office Disc however I do not
want to loose all of my saved messages (lots of folders
and files!!)

Can I do that and create another copy of the outlook
program that I could use??

Export your .pst file to backup all of your Outlook settings and email, then
copy that .pst file to an external source.

Install Outlook on nthe new drive and Import the old .pst file and all
should be ok.

As far as the old drive, put that into tanother pc, and if low-level
formatting does not help, throw it out.

No. Don't export. Just copy the PST, if you can do so with the failing
drive, to an external medium lke a CD.

No. Don't import. Just copy the PST to your new hard disk, remove the Read
Only attribute, and use File>Open in Outlook to open it.
