I am running Outlook 2003, and was connected through a
LAN to a exchange server (which we intended to remove)
and i was running in live mode...I.E. my messages were
saved on the server...Before we removed the exchange
server i switched to cached mode, and it appeared that
all messages were then saved down to my computer...it
took hours...We removed the exchange server and my
messages were still available locally...when i added
another pop3 account to connect to a different email
account and removed the exchange email account, the
messages vanished! I have located an outlook office data
file that is about 1.5 gig and i am assuming that it is
the file, but i am completely without a clue as to how to
access the file.

Please Someone Help Me :(

..ost files are profile specific. When you changed your Exchange profile,
you lost the connection to the .ost file.

Is there anyway possible way to get that back?

Is your Exchange server still available?
Got full Exchange backups, if not?

If the answer is "no" to both of the above, you might have some luck with
www.exchangerecovery.com.

Note that the proper thing to do would have been to export your mailbox to a
PST file before doing anything.

What's the reason you're getting rid of Exchange, if I might be so bold?

tis not a problem...
well, we started out as a small ISP now and we completely outgrew it...So we
switched all our email clients to a Merak Mail Server platform. that is
controlled with a product called Hosting Controller...Hosting controller
controls all DNS, Mail, and IIS and SQL from a central web platform.

Our exchange server is now a dedicated SQL box so it isn't available...I do
have backups available...would it be possible to get my email from a backup,
that was created before I moved to "Cached" mode...

If i was only smarter :( then i would have merely dragged those to a
personal folder...But i am completely amazed and somewhat dumbfounded that i
have 1.5 gig file that is completely useless. :(((((

If you have a full Exchange backup & can do a disaster recovery restore to a
spare server, you should be fine.

Not entirely - but you may have to pay for www.exchangerecovery.com :-(
