I have added the newsgroups according to the MVP web site but none of the
messages are "downloaded"..I am on a DSL line. What do I have to do to have
them automatically download?

You need to "subscribe" to a newsgroup (listed as part of the newsgroup
server.) Then, you will just download the "headers" until you reach the
"article" and clikc on "open".

I am subscribed and I see the messages on the top part of the screen but do
not see the message content on the bottom. I would also like to mark the
message to track with the eyeglasses and don't seem to be able to. Does
outlook express act differently than Outlook in it basic download function.?

To set up your columns so you can see the eyeglasses, right click in the
gray area that says Subject and select Columns. Check the box that says
watch/ignore.
If you select a message, doesn't it appear in the bottom pane?

Works exactly the same way. The view is newsgroups on left, message header
upper right, preview pane lower right. This the default view.

Open tools/options/read tab, refer to the line about downloading a message
if its selected. Should time out if the news server fails to respond. Be
little patient for that part.

If that doesn't work your cable system may have their version of the MS
newsgroups at their news servers.

In order to see the message below the list try the following:

On the toolbar at the top of Outlook Express, click on View.
Select Layout from the menu that's displayed.
Put a check mark in the box next to "Preview Pane".
Make sure "Below messages" is selected.
Click OK.

All that you suggest is done and on the newsgroup windowsceupdates it will
not shos messages
I even tried unsub and resub

If I subscribe to any other newsgroup, it automatically brings in and shows
all the messages

Thank you all--it seems to be working for all other newsgroups OK so that's
OK with me
thanks for all your help..Happy Halloween!!

The messages are not automatically downloaded. Only the headers. When you
have Preview turned and when you select the message then it will download
just that message.

Thank you..

Perhaps you could ask in a group with OE in the title? Notice this
group lacks those initials.
