outlook messages disappear from inbox when forwarded or replied t.

I am using win98se and office 2000. Outlook started dropping the original
email message when forwarded or replied to. They disappear out of the inbox.
I have already checked the setup under tools, options, preferences and email
and don't see what would be causing this. Any ideas out there?
 
Check for filters or sorts on your view.
Sound to me like this one is "Sort by Icon" since that's what changes when
you reply or forward a message.
