Outlook messages can't be deleted

Actually, this should read that only a limited number of messages can be
deleted from Outlook at any one time. If I delete, say, six messages then
when I try and delete the seventh I get a message box that says 'The
messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists,
restart Outlook'. The problem persists!

Any help would be gratefully received. I'm running Office 2003

This may be a problem beyond Outlook - what type of mail server as you
using? IMAP or POP?

Stephen,

In answer to your question, the server is POP/SMTP (whatever that means!). I
thought it would be specific to my Outlook installation but now that you've
raised the possibility that it might be something outside I'm reminded that I
have had a similiar problem only last week with my Web Outlook from work. I
can see my e-mails at work by using a web-based interface that is described
as Outlook. I tried to delete several e-mails from it last week and it didn't
want to do it although I do know that it will allow me to delete one or two
(or a few more, at least). Stranger and stranger.

Kind regards,

Bohznaye

Could it be that your email (on the server) mailbox is at capacity? I know
in our domain, users are sometimes unable to empty the trash or delete
messages if the mailbox stores are at or near capacity. Try emptying your
trash prior to deleting messages. Also, if you are using POP (which may not
be the case, since you describe using OWA--outlook web access--at work), make
sure you have DE-selected "leave messages on server" in your mail client
properties. That way server-side limitations do not restrict your use of
your email.

Thanks for you suggestions Kathea. I've tried them but to no avail - I still
have the same problem. I can delete messages one by one in the Inbox window
but I can't delete them in the Find (Found?) window. Could it be a missing
file or is there something corrupt in the state of Outlook?

Bohznaye

I'd be lead to believe that this is a server side issue.. To trouble
shoot this, try installing Thunderbird (a mozilla program) and
configuring it to use your email account. If you can delete e-mails
through thunderbird, then it is a problem specific to your Outlook
program or account.
