When using the Request Receipt option in Outlook Expres, does the recipient
know that the receipt was requested? I just want to know if in fact the
person I sent an e-mail has opened the message - and not that I requested the
receipt.

Delivery receipts are controlled by the mail server. Read receipts are
controlled by the receiver and require user interaction unless the receiver
has configured otherwise.

Note that this is an Microsoft Office Outlook forum.

Outlook Express is family of Internet Explorer and Outlook of the Office
family.

Good Luck!

Yes, the recipient will know if a read receipt was requested, and will
have to confirm if s/he will want to send that receipt. Imagine if this
were not so; spammers would be in paradise - they'd get a secret read
receipt from anyone who opened their spam!
