Outlook keeps trying to send items that are not in the Outbox.

Every time a 'send/receive' operation is performed, at some point in the
process I see 'Sending message 1 of 4', even though there are no messages
waiting in the outbox to be sent.

Recently, I have had exactly four read receipt requests.
I know this has to be related because I noticed this when it was just one
'message' being sent - then every time I responded to a read request the
total went up by one. But I have no way of knowing why because no items
appear in the outbox.

Any suggestions?

The failure for read receipts to be delivered is often because the receipts
are tied to an account that was removed subsequent to the sending of the
message with the receipt request. See this site for instructions on how to
