"outlook is trying to retrieve data ............"
What is going on?
SBS2003,Outlook2003,
Cya.

We have this at work and it just means that too many people are trying to
access the server at that particular time. We have a lot of people in our
office, and a very slow LAN line, with an old server. We're CONSTANTLY
getting this message, wherease we didn't before because we had half as many
employees trying to access the server.

The Microsoft Folks can answer better but I'd bet that an improved network
may help. IE - Improved cables / connection or a stronger
server????????????????

Turn on cached mode for all users.

This started after the updates applied in the last 2 weeks and then we did
our monthly reboot AND now have the problem. Were b4 we did NOT. Out LAN is
gig based, the work stations run the OS, access, outlook and that's it. 512
on all the workstations. I don't see where switching to cached mode is going
to solve the problem as I see it posted else where.
Thanks

It will help a lot - that's one of the main things cached mode helps with. I
would use it for all users even if I didn't have major problems with network
speed. Of course, I'd probably also have my physical network looked at, and
get a decent switch.

As I keep saying, the network is not the issue. A gig networkwith Cisco
equipment(that is working fine) is main stream and it did not receive any
patches from MS.
Thank you

Ok, then your server still might be busy, or whatever. I don't have any
means to do network sniffing/testing on your LAN.I stand by my "use cached
mode" statement, especially if you are receiving messages such as you are.
Not sure what else I can tell you. I don't see the downside to cached mode
if you have the option.

Hello Brian, I have the same problem (Outlook is trying.....) and tried
cache mode as a test on a few PC's, did not help at all. I am with you, my
LAN will copy and
move files fine, just Outlook to Exchange, posts are all over on this and
the answer is always company line, "Use cached mode" Dan T.
