This is something that's been driving me nuts about Outlook. Lately EVERY
time I restart the program it claims that it was shut down incorrectly and
has to check for problems, because the program obviously gets corrupted for
mysterious reasons and loses its ability to shut down correctly. This
happens even though EVERY TIME I shut down the program in the proper manner.
I corresponded with someone on this forum a few days ago and she speculated
that the problem was caused by Google Desktop. I then disabled Google
desktop's indexing activity my computer, which is the only thing I imagine it
can do that interferes with other programs. But the problem with Outlook
2007 persists. So I don't believe it's a Google problem.
Now Mary writes that it could be a PDA. But in my case I only periodically
synch my PDA and this happens even when I haven't attached a PDA for days.
My claim is that Microsoft should take the responsibility for updating
Outlook so this doesn't happen. It seems to me there must be a way to
program Outlook so it can force a disconnect with any invasive program and
shut down correctly. This problem has migrated from Outlook 2003 to 2007
without any visible change. One of the most aggravating aspects of this is
that sometimes this corrupts Outlook's manually configured shortcuts and they
all disappear. These seem like the kind of bugs that ought to be high up on
Microsoft's "fix it" list, but apparently that's not the case.
