We use MS Exchange 2000 server for email and use the
program Outlook 2002. Lately it has been extremely slow
and a message pops up stating it is retrieving file from
MS Exchange Server. Any suggestions?

Make sure you're not tying into MS instant messenger (there's an setting to
do that in your options - I can't reember where, but it's there). This will
really slow down OL.

You'll need to talk to whoever administers the Exchange server or your
network about this. Apparently either Exchange or your network has gotten
much slower recently. Outlook is just reporting that it's taking a long
time for data to arrive from the server, so you don't think that Outlook has
hung.

Hvaing the same issue with 2003, only some users report this errors and
others don't. Would it have anything to do with the size of the mailbox.
Also interesetd to know more about that MSN comment that made.

It might have to do with the size of the mailbox - I don't know. You're
probably better off taking the question to one of the Exchange newsgroups,
where there's more experience in tuning Exchange/Outlook performance. As to
the MSN comment that was made, that was someone misunderstanding your issue.
It turns out that (in Outlook 2002, at least) having Instant Messenger
integration turned on if you didn't have Instant Messaging enabled led to
significant delays when moving between messages (Outlook was trying to
determine if the recipients were online, but couldn't because IM was not
present).

Wait a minute explain that MSN thing a bit better, you may be on to
something there....can you be elaborate on that concept a bit...
I will go to Exchange Server for other thing...thanks.,

I'm pretty sure it is (but I can't remember the path)

I'm using 2003 now and it's in the "Other" tab, under: Tools-Options.

Under options, other there is a check box for instant
messaging. Uncheck and outlook will speed up. It
happened to me right after I installed MSN messenger.
Unchecking solved the problem.
