Outlook hangs at startup

At various times, Outlook stops responding when I try to open the program. I
have the program password protected, and the box asking for my password does
not appear. I have to end the program in task manager. If I try to open
Outlook in safe mode, nothing happens right away. If I then try to restart
the computer, the process of shutting down just begins and then the password
dialog box for Outlook appears. At this point, I am able to start Outlook,
(in addition, the shut down procedure halts at this point) Also, if I just
reboot the machine, Outlook will start, in the regular as well as Safe mode.
Something is hanging the program up, but I can't figure out what it is. Any
assistance would be appreciated.

I had the same problems when my outlock folder was too big. (specially
with Outlook 2000)

If this is the case, you can try the following tips :

- Reinstall the version (not very probable to work)

- try to install a newer version (here the problems appear less often).

- If you don't need your mails any more (I know you do, but may be) you
can try to remove the outlook library to another place and start a new
one, staying with the same version and at least have a running version.

- You can try then to open the old library as a second library (but
mails are loaded to the new one) and delete some mails to get the
version more stable

In any case save your old message library!

Hope I could help you

Klaus
