My entire Office 2003 Professional suite failed
yesterday. After months of working properly, now
whenever I try and call any module, including Outlook,
rather than loading the "Installer" Window opens. The
system hangs for a few minutes and then prompts" the
feature is not installed do you want to install?" If you
say yes it hangs again the finally returns a "Windows
Installer error 1601. Contract your Site Adminitrator"
This occurs in Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook, the
whole lot. I have tried the following:
1: Run msiexec / unreg and then /regserver
2:Tried to run the Office profile Wizard both in WIndows
and from a command prompt
I am running Windows XP Pro SP1. It looks like the
WIndows Installer is damaged but I am clueless how to try
and recover. Nothing seems to work.
