Outlook Fails To Start 'Open'

Strange problem with O2002, WinXP SP2, networked but app and pst local.
McAfee Virus running - same problem with and without.

Outlook appears to be starting correctly with the logo appearing in the
bottom bar, then it often (not all the time) disappears. On some occasions
if I wait long enough (anything between 1 and 10 mins) it may start-up
correctly, other times not at all.

If I check in CtlAltDel it's started as a process but just is not visible.

Messenger is not activated, pst is large but same one runs on my laptop
without problem.

Any suggestions?

Try shutting down all running processes of outlook.exe in Task Manager and
then try it again.

Some common reasons why Outlook will not shut down completely when you click
either the X or Exit:

1. PDA synchronization software with your PDA in the cradle.
2. WinFax Pro (especially 10.02 in Outlook 2003) - contact their support
for an alleged fix.
3. Franklin-Covey Plan Plus!
4. COM Add-ins.
5. Mail reminder add-ins that keep a stub of Outlook open in the background
to check for new mail and fire reminders.
6. Anti-virus/firewall programs that are set to scan incoming and outgoing
mail.

Thanks for the list Milly - only one that applies is the Virus Check. But I
get the same results with it open and closed.

Closing down the Outlook tasks in Task Manager simply causes Outlook to say
it (when restarted) Failed To Start Correctly Last Time and suggests
opening in safe mode.

Usually even when I check that there are no current instances of Outlook
open in Task Manager I still get the same results starting Outlook.

Cheers
