I have a question and hope that I may find an answer on
here. I have Windows XP and I am using Outlook Express 6
for my email. I am going away and I want to automatically
reply to all emails sent to me, leaving them a message. I
have racked my brains out trying to figure out how to do
this, and needless to say, I cannot. I would appreciate
any help you guys can give. Thanks

Hi Steve,

Create your message in Word, Wordpad, Notepad or any other text program you
like. Save as (name you choose) and make sure you have selected a text
extension .txt.

Go to OE/Tools/Message Rules/Mail/New and set up a rule.

1. Select your option from the top section for whom you want to send it to.
2. In the second section, scroll down and select "reply with message."
3. In the third section, click on the word "message." You'll be prompted
to select the file to use.
4. In the bottom dropdown window, change the extension to text (mail is the
default and won't see your saved file.)
5. Select the file you created. It will show the path to the message.

To test it, send an email to yourself and see if you get your message back.
When you look at the message you sent yourself in the inbox, it should show
a reply icon.

See reply to your post in OE6 NG. Outlook Express is not a suitable Mail
Client for this...unless you intend to leave your machine running and
connected to the 'net, with OE open and set to poll for new messages on a
schedule, the entire time you're away.

PS: Your auto-reply will also be sent to spammers, confirming your email
address, will tell anyone sending you a message that you're not home...and
it won't work for Hotmail or MSN accounts.

This means that the OP's PC must be on 24/7, with an internet connection
on 24/7 and OE running 24/7. ALL the spam that comes in will be replied
to, with the inevitable additional spam this cause. It also advertises
to all and sundry that your home is available for burglary. NOT A GOOD
IDEA!
