My OE seems to have some bugs. From time to time, it automatically
compresses my In box and Sent items. About half way thru compressing the In
box, I get an error message. Also, it seem that I am missing emails and some
are taking forever to get to me. I can't tell if this is a problem with the
server or OE. Does anyone know. Do you think I should reinstall OE. If so,
does anyone know an easy way to do it. Sorry for my ignorance.

In WinXP SP2, OE will automatically compact /all/ folders every 100 times
you close the application. This cannot be disabled. Despite our repeated
requests, there still is no KB article documenting this Automatic
Compacting.
About half way thru compressing the In box, I get an error message.

And the error is...?
...Also, it seem that I am missing emails
and some are taking forever to get to me.

I very much doubt OE has anything to do with this, BP.

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity (File >
Identities > Add new identity). Assuming all is well, import messages from
the old Identity before deleting it (File > Identities > Manage Identities).

To avoid such corruption in future:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm.

- Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only).

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

Sorry - I'm new to this and didn't realize there was a specialized group.

The error message indicates there is not enough memory to compact the In-box.
Also, when I try to move a bunch of emails from my In-box to a local folder
I created as an archive, it indicates there is not enough memory there either.

1. Take Out the Trash (http://aumha.org/a/health.htm, Section 4). When
deleting Temporary Internet Files, make sure you opt to delete all offline
content as well.

2. Try compacting all folders manually
(http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm).

3. If no joy, try moving messages out of Inbox and to another Local folder,
as you did before.

4. If still no joy, Inbox and/or the identity is damaged:

4a. Move anything you want to keep out of Sent Items and into another Local
folder, then close OE.

4b. Move Inbox.dbx out of your store folder
(http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm#storemain) to a temporary folder
you've created on desktop for this purpose.

4c. Open OE > Create a new Named Identity and configure your email accounts
in it manually. (See previous post.)

4d. Import into the new identity all of the Local folders in the old
identity EXCEPT Inbox (which will now be empty), Sent Items, Outbox and
Drafts.

4e. Delete the old identity.

5. Run any of the following utilities on the Inbox.dbx file in the desktop
folder. Any messages recovered (Don't get your hopes up) can then be
dragged into an open OE folder. Tip: Don't drag them to Inbox.

DBXtract

DBXtend (additional functionality)

To avoid similar problems in future:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
