Hi all, I can't for the life of me remember how I got the pop and smtp
settings for my old mail account. Can anybody help? I'm setting up a new PC.
I'm using OE on XP home
TIA

Every ISP has a Support/Help web page that describes how to setup
and use email. Usually it's a screen capture Step-by-Step guide. Most
have guides for OE, Outlook and other email clients.

Get the mail server settings from your ISP.

Go to control panel find the icon for mail
Click on it, select email accounts
On the next screen select view or change
Next screen select change
The next screen that comes up will show a box to put in your incoming mail
server
It should be pop. your isp.com or net (pop.comcast.net)
Below the incoming server is the outgoing server. Set this up as SMTP.your
isp.com or net (SMTP.comcast.net)
do not check logon using a secure server.
Check the rest of the page to see that the imformation is correct and then
test your account setting.
This should work but if it doesn't remove the old account and then add a new
account using the same imformation. (Be sure two copy the imformation down
before you delete it

It's nice that you gave this longer explanation to the OP, but the
bottom line is that they need to get the mail server settings from
their ISP. For instance, here the Comcast mail settings are not
"pop.comcast.net" as you wrote, but "mail.comcast.net". Mail server
settings vary depending on the ISP and location. The OP needs to go to
his/her ISP's website or call them for the correct settings.
