Before filing the court papers, think of the kids...and let me ask: Are you
running any Norton (i.e., NAV, NIS, NSW, NPF) of McAfee (VirusScan, Internet
Security) applications?

Hi:
When I had a hard time on O.E., someone advised me to change to Outlook.
But, afterwards,
I thought about it 'twice.' Then, I stuck with O.E. I am VERY glad I did
it.

Then I totally agree the following, ... makes me a good laugh reading this,
below, tho'.
But, ... again it's VERY true. I totally agree, 100%.
you
running any Norton (i.e., NAV, NIS, NSW, NPF) of McAfee (VirusScan, Internet
Security) applications? <<<<

Thanks,

Not running Symantec but McAfee hangs on Outlook Express "send Box"
Switched to AVG over the weekend . Seems OK so far

I am about to get a divorce from OE. Any ideas on other mail programs?

There are umpteen E-mail programs out there, and *every* one of has a group
of people who think it's the best. Ask enough people and you'll get
recommendations for them all. Unless you want to make a choice based on
majority vote, asking like this won't really help you.

Your question would be more productive if you would tell us what you don't
like about Outlook Express and what feature or features you'd like to see in
a replacement for it.

Read his reply regarding McAfee AV and sending email.

1. It's not a problem having both VirusScan and AVG installed, but only one
should be loading at boot and run in the background. Address this, if
necessary.

2. Disable email scanning any anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection, can cause problems/corruption, and even Symantec says
it's not necessary:

Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.

Troubleshooting error messages that you receive when you are using OL and OE
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813514

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only).
