I cannot activate spell check on a new Dell 4600 with
Windows XP Home edition. There is no "spelling" tab
under the tools---options menu like there is on my office
system. Anyone encounter this problem? Solutions?

Windows does not include a spell check program. You have to have one
installed like the one that comes with MS Office (word, excel, etc..).

Outlook and outlook express rely upon the spell checking
dictionary of Microsoft Word. Therefore if Microsoft Word
is not on your system then you will be unable to spell
check using outlook express.
Obviously, with your office pc you have either Microsoft
Office installed or, alternatively Microsoft Word.

Hope this helps

Outlook Express does not come with a spell checker of its own. If
you have an Microsoft Office component installed, it will use the
spell checker from it.

Alternatively, there are several freeware/shareware spell
checkers you can download which work with OE. I've never
personally used any of these, so I'll let someone else recommend
one.

I think you will only have a spell checker in Outlook when you reply to or
create a message and then it will be in the tool menu.

I heard about this freebie when I had Windows ME and no MS Office
installed. I had it installed and always had a "spell check" option
in Outlook Express. I do try quite a few Tweaks and Utilities so I'm
not really sure if this was the program that gave me the spell check
feature in OE.

Please scan this file with your Virus software before running it. I
believe the file is safe. but no guarantees.

Next time please post only a link, and never attach or open a EXE file
posted to a newsgroups or sent by email. Not everyone has broadband
connections. There is a free spell checking program in the newsreader link
in my signature below that does work and is safe.
