I have IE6 and OE6 running on a new laptop XP Home. The
spell check in OE6 fails with a message "An error
occurred while the spelling was being checked."
I have tried to download anew from microsoft downloads,
but cannot as "Setup has detected a newer version of
Internet Explorer already installed on the system. Setup
cannot continue"
Can anyone tell me what I do next? All I want is the
spell check - everything else is fine.
Thanks

Go to Start/Run/EXPAND X:\i386\CSAPI3T1.DL_ C:\CSAPI3T1.DLL (Where X is your
CD-Rom drive letter). And then copy it to: Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof

Or download the file here: Replace the Csapi3t1.dll file
http://www.tech-pro.co.uk/howto_010.html

An error occurred while the spelling was being checked.

Checkpoint: Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools

In the right pane where it reads: SharedFilesDir, verify that it reads:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared under Data.

Outlook Express uses the spellchecker from MS Word or MS Office so you need
to have one of these installed first. You then need to search on the web for
a file called "csapi3t1.dll" and copy it to the folder "Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof". You might need to restart Windows but the
spell checker should work now.

Cheers.
