Outlook Express Security Questions

I have two questions about Outlook Express. Forgive me, but I'm a little
paranoid about HTML email.

1. If I download an email from my ISP that looks suspicious, and so
immediately delete it without opening it, does the sender know I downloaded
the email, even if I didn't open the message? (I have the Preview pane
turned off.)

2. If I look at an email's properties (File menu: Properties) without
opening the email itself, would any exploits in the HTML be triggered? And
would the sender know I checked the Properties?

Thanks for all your help.

According to an Outlook Express expert, Sandra Hardmeier MS-MVP,
if you select the option to read all e-mail messages in plain
text format (an option available after upgrading to Microsoft
Internet Explorer and Outlook Express 6 Service Pack 1), and for
messages sent in the HTML format, even if you view a message in
the preview pane the sender will not be able to detect that it
has been read.
