I am using Outlook Express (is this the right group for that?) and are trying
to set it up to read emails from my hotmail account. I think I set it up
correctly, but when I try to send/read messages I get this error message:

Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail',
Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol:
HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Access to Hotmail via Outlook and Outlook Express
now requires a subscription. Please sign up at http://upgrade.msn.com', Port:
0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x80004005

I went to http://upgrade.msn.com, but all I can find there is a download for
a MSN update. Do I have to use a new version of MSN and have an account there
to be able to read emails with Outlook Express?

Actually, there are separate groups for Outlook Express, as it is a
completely different program from Outlook despite the unfortunately similar
name. Hotmail/MSN has discontinued access to free Hotmail accounts through
Outlook and Outlook Express unless you already had one configured there
before they pulled the plug. You'll have to either buy the updated
Hotmail/MSN subscription or just use the web interface to read your Hotmail
messages.
