how do i make outlook express my default email program even if i have that
and outlook 2003?

Either start Internet Explorer, or go into the Control Panel and click
Internet Options. Either way, click the programs tab, and change the Email
drop-down list to the program that you would like to be your default email
program.

That should answer your question.

which is better?

Neither are "better" - it depends on what you want. Outlook Express does
email, in multiple Identities but has no Calendar or Tasks list, and News
Reading. Outlook has a Calendar and Tasks list but does not do News reading
and does not have Identities.
