Outlook Express not connecting to msnews.microsoft.com

I am trying to connect to the Microsoft Newsgroups at msnews.microsoft.com
using outlook express 6 on Windows XP.
However, it is saying "could not connect to the server".
This is when the net connection is working alright and i am sending this
message through the same connection using web based discussion forum
interface.

Are you on a network/Internet connection that blocks outbound port 119
(NNTP)? Using another (i.e., non Windows) software firewall?

Note - this is an Outlook newsgroup. Your question would be better posted in
one for Windows networking or Outlook Express:

microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress
 
I've been having the same trouble with newsgroups as well as not being able
to get connected to links sent in Outlook6.
The problem seemed to happen soon after a microsoft service pack update. :(
Tried to get outlook 6 again but am getting an error saying I all ready have
an up to date express.
Any thoughts or help?

i am also having Windows XP SP2.
The problem might be due to SP2.

I am not being able to access microsoft newsgroups through outlook express.
Kindly advise me on anyother newsgroup which can be accessed though outlook
express so that i can check the connectivity.

Ask your ISP what their news server is.

Use Google to look for "free news server". You'll find plenty.
