Outlook Express keeps popping up

Outlook Express keeps popping up on my computer. I don't
use Outlook Express, (though I do use Outlook), it is a
menacing and redundant program.

Questions:
1. Can I simply remove Outlook Express, (Version 6) from
my computer?

2. How can I get it to stop checking for email every 10
minutes and then telling me there is an error?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

If you are using XP, then no, you can't. Besides, Outlook uses parts of
Outlook Express.

Tools-Options-general and uncheck the box "Check for New messages every"
