From PA Bear, (9-27):

<quote> As many as 18 million Hotmail subscribers will be weaned Monday
[27 Sept-04] from a free service that lets them export e-mail to another
mail client, under Microsoft MSN's new spam-fighting plan.

Hotmail, the Internet portal's Web-based e-mail service, has long
offered subscribers the ability to use a technology standard known as
Web DAV
(Web distributed authoring and versioning) to download e-mail from
Hotmail into Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express for free.

Starting Monday, MSN will grant use of Web DAV tools only to paid
subscribers of Hotmail, which starts at $19.95. However, Hotmail
subscribers who have previously used the technology, an estimated 5
percent to 10 percent of its total 187 million customers, will be able
to continue to use it for free through March or April of 2005. </quote>

That error usually means that the Subject (or From) line of a message (or a
folder name in your Hotmail account) is confusing the HTTPMail protocol. In
your case, it looks like the former.

It may be a message with an foreign character in the subject line, or
possibly even in the From field. Go to www.hotmail.com and delete the
problem message(s) from your Inbox there.

Did you create a custom folder at www.hotmail.com and name it using
disallowed characters?

Do *not* create/add a custom Hotmail folder in OE. Create it at
www.hotmail.com and it will appear in OE the next time you poll the HTTP
server.

If a quick look at your Hotmail account onlines doesn't immediately suggest
a particular culprit, turn on HTTP Troubleshooting (OE
Tools>Options>Maintenance). You will then find a HTTPMail.log file in your
identity's store which should give you some idea about which message or
folder is causing the problem(s).
