outlook email slow to load, then error message, "not responding" W

When I open Outlook email, loading takes 5 min., does not connect, I get
message, Not Responding" what do I do to improve response??
 
Hi,
What is the setup surrounding this problem?? Which version of Outlook, what
is the O/S of the PC it is running on, is it part of a network, is it trying
to connect to Exchange server or is it a home PC connecting directly to the
internet etc etc.
Please supply more info to help with troubleshooting.

Got a version for that Outlook? What about the account type?
 
I am running XP Home, SP/2, Outlook 2007. It is a part of home network on a
Linksys wireless setup. I am connected directly to internet on the PC. The
PC is an older HP Pavilion, have plenty of memory and run clean up programs
for better performance. All my other programs do not seem to have a problem.
