Outlook does not close

Dear group,

Hope someone could help me.
I have a Dell laptop with XP.
Recently, when I try to shut down the computer, I get the message which
is
like "closing a program (Outlook)".
But as far as I know, I close Outlook before trying to shut down.
I get this same message quite a few times (sometimes more than 20 times,
but usually a little less than 10) before it shuts down.
What is happening, and how can this be fixed?

In another group, someone kindly suggested I upgrade IE6 to IE6SP1, which
did following his advice.
But this did not fix the problem.

Please someone help?

Sorry, I thought should be more specific: The version I have is Outlook
2002.
Someone suggested maybe some worm involved, but my Norton detected nothing
wrong.
I skimmed some posts (out of tens of thousands!) from this group and noticed
that quite a few people have similar problems unanswered, or maybe I missed
the answers somewhere in the sea of posts.

Please, please help....
