How do you set up a dist. list and NOT have all the individual addresses show
up in the outgoing email? I just want the distribution list name to show up
without the reader being able to see who else is on the list.

Can this be done?

With an Exchange DL; yes. With a Contacts DL; no. You can also use the BCC
field or a Mail Merge

What specifically is a "BCC field" and how do I use it to accomplish my goal?
thanx

Bcc is blind carbon copy. Any addresses in that field are not seen by
others. If you used your distribution list in that field, each email
address would only see their name and not the others. If you do not have
the Bcc field in your email, it is in the view pull down menu of an open
email.

Paul - hi again! Hope you see this message. WRT Outlook and the sounds that it plays - I've set all my menu items to "play sounds" but when I receive emails it just won't play any sounds. I've gone into my Window Control Panel too and checked the sound settings there and all looks good. What am I missing?
thanx .... tx28

If you are sure your menu is set to play sound in outlook try the following
in control panel under sounds, find the new mail notification sound event
change the sound to a different one and press play to test
switch the file back to the one you want to use and test again.
Hopefully this works

Paul - hi again and thanx for your suggestion - but - it didn't work. What
I have discovered however is that when I "switch users" to another account on
my PC I noticed that the "New Email" sound does in fact enable. Both
accounts (mine included) have admin privs. Any other ideas?

Another thing I can think of is checking your registry. Make sure you have
backed up your registry before editing since I am reporting the places
notify.wav (new mail sound) occurs in my registry, this may or may not be
true for you. I have not tested this or done any of these changes manually

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\MailBeep\.Current
should have a string value of %SystemRoot%\media\notify.wav
also .Default has the same string value

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2403461063-2728669312-2927683207-1146\AppEvents\Schemes\
Apps\.Default\MailBeep\.Current
same as above

Hi Paul - still no luck. I did notice this time however that when I changed the sound selection in the Control Panel / Sounds from notify.wav to ringout.wav - my new selection did not get updated in the registry. My string in the Registry fyi was a little different than yours - it read:
%SystemRoot%\media\Windows XP Notify.wav - so I substituted your string
for mine and still no luck.
Any other ideas? Thanx for your help!

Sorry, I'm out of ideas. If everything is properly checked in outlook and
registry is properly set to play sound, then I'm not sure what else to look
for. I have seen other posts on this topic so you are not alone with this
issue. If you do figure it out, please post back and let us know how to
fix. Thanks
