In trying to remedy an extremely slow outlook response I ran the diagnose and
repair option. It seemed to have replaced my entire my entire outlook when
it prompted for the location of the original source of the program... I think
I mistakenly put in an earlier version of Office in the disc drive. Someone
please tell me I did not erase my inbox/outbox...

I have a problem with my outlook and have tried to re-install my office
programs. I have been advised by a Microsoft Tech that in replacing the
programs, I will not lose my documents or mail. However, the I have not been
able to get my programs to re-install due to a missing file and I have not
been able to get any support from Microsoft regarding the missing file. How
do I access the "diagnose and repair" option?

You did not erase your inbox/outbox. Install and repair operations have no
effect at all on a Personal Folders (.PST) file where the bulk of Outlook's
data is kept.

What missing file?
What version of Outlook?

You should be able to do a repair from 'Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs'

It doesn't exactly match, but maybe this article will help:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314810
Error message during Office 2000 or Office XP installation: "Error 1335 -
Cannot Copy Cab File Office1.cab"

Forgot to mention in my previous post... i cannot locate Scanpst.exe. i am
running vista. i have located my .pst file(s) i think in
disk/user/appdata/local/ms/outlook... but there is no scanpst.exe there or
when i search from the start menu.

On my Vista Ultimate system, Scanpst.exe is located at:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\scanpst.exe

You would NEVER import a .PST file unless you want part of your data lost
and you want your Outlook profile corrupted. You would locate the .PST file
then open it in Outlook using 'File|Open|Outlook Data File'.

Still can't find the file... i manually searched all folders associated with
outlook and office. I also searched through the start menu and came up with
nothing. Can this file be downloaded or accessed from somewhere online?

I performed the 'File/open/outlook data file' operation you noted below and
the response was that it could not access that file... this probably loops
back to the original problem i had when i performed "diagnose and repair";
i.e., there is a corrupt/bad file in my mail somewhere (i think?). Which
then leads back to my other post of not having the 'scanpst.exe" on my
system.

Search may not find it without being set to show hidden/system files. Did
you try plugging the path into 'Start|Run...'?

Did it want a password to access the file? If you moved this .PST file from
one computer to another, you must be sure it didn't get set READ ONLY in the
process. Outlook cannot use a read only .PST file and it won't tell you
that this is the problem, it will only refuse to open it.
