Hello
When I opne a distribution list that is empty, and I want to add addresses
it opens the address book. That means I have a bunch of names that I do not
know about unless I can 'see' what they relate to ie: category. Sorrily
that does not exisits in the PAB but there is no way to create a
distribution list without the PAB? or is there?
This is beyond confusing at the least.....
I need a simple thing from one side I have a series of contacts sorted by
categories. I have a distribution list and I want to have the contacts from
a specific category to be in the distribution list.
How can I do that without invoking black magic?
thanks you

All Contact data resides in Contact Folders, not an address book. Outlook
has not used a PAB for years and does not need one. Contact Folders have
supported distribution lists for years. The Outlook Address Book replaced
the PAB and is simply a dynamic view of the electronic addresses contained
in your Contacts Folders. DL's in your Contact Folders will appear in the
Outlook Address Book.

Ok I take this but then how do I fill a distribution list directly from the
categories I have setup in contacts without facing the PAB?
Is there something wrong with my setup? and in that case how can I fix it...
?
Thank you
Yves

The question is, if you already have Categories, why do you need a DL? There
is little reason to create a DL if you've already gone to the trouble of
creating categories. Categories can be used the same way you would a DL.
Just switch to the By Category View, select the Category Header, then
Actions > New Message to Contact...

If you still feel you must create a DL from a Category, there is a clumsy
way to do so. Change the Contacts Folder View to by Category. Right click
and drag the Category required to a newly created Contacts subfolder then
choose Copy. Make sure the new subfolder has been enabled as an email
address book by right clicking on it and choosing Properties > Outlook
Address Book Tab > and check the box to enable as email address book. Create
your new Distribution List, give it a name and make sure the Show Names drop
down field points to this new subfolder. Then shift select all the contacts
and add them to the DL.
