In Outlook should have the option to check which accounts you want to sync
when sending and receiving.
That way when travelling can uncheck the account using when at home so as to
not cause an error message.
Outlook Express has this option.

Outlook has send/receive groups. Those groups contain your accounts and
which of those accounts should send and/or receive. If you don't want an
account to receive, for example, then change the send/receive group
containing it so that account doesn't receive.
