I can't open a simple jpg in Outlook 2000, Windows 2000. All updates
installed.

Is there a workaround to this problem? Appreciate your help. thanks

I get the standard warning about open file... could be unsafe and you'll die...
file is titled something.jpg; that much I can see. When click to open or
save to disc I get "outlook cannot find URL." This is a relatively recent
thing and beginning to occur frequently from more than one sender. I have
all the Microsoft updates. Don't know what program sender uses or whether
she is using some other form of color than my system can handle. Read on
microsoft site about RGB vs some other type of color format.
Whatever the issue, it's maddening. I can't seem to find a way around it.
I am a fiber artist and need to share jpg to and from with my internet fiber
group. Art is visual!
Thanks for your help Brian.

Did you try saving the JPEG to disk? Attachment security is discussed here:

When click to open or save to disc I get "outlook cannot find URL."

Conceivably an issue with the Outlook Secure Temp Folder. Close Outlook.
Open a command line window and enter the following:

cd %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
dir /a

Look for a folder that starts with OLK. Delete it like this:

rmdir /q /s OLKxxx

Exit the command line windows and restart Outlook. Try your JPEG again.

I will go to those sites and read.

Brian:
I copy/pasted the above line into "run". Probably wasn't the "command line"
you had in mind but that's all I know how to do. Computer said can't find
"cd" make sure path correct. In my brief exposure to DOS, a thousand years
ago, cd meant change directory.

If I'm supposed to go to DOS, I'll need hand holding as I haven't done that
in years. Only other way I know to get to Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files is to open the registry. Thinking that's what you're saying I should
do. I'll back up registry then see if I can discover a file beginning with
OLK.

Thanks. I appreciate your help.

Brian:
I thought at first this meant going via "run" or editing the registry.
Been a thousand years since I tried to do anything via DOS. Scarey.

Went to "help" and typed in "command line." WAHOO! a window popped up that
went to black screen with white lettering. Looks like "DOS" screen from what
little I remember about DOS. Had already copied your command line. Right
clicked in the black screen and the command line opened. (That was a thrill
in itself...) Found the directory beginning with OLK and did what you told
me to do. It worked!! I can open the jpg. Halleluiah.
You're a sweet heart. Thanks for helping me get my art back to "visual."

Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt or put "cmd" in the Open
field of Start>Run. WIndows Explorer will not show the contents of
Temporary Internet Files as it really exists on disk.

Of course not.

Still does.

It's not really DOS, but a DOS command emulator

The name of the OLK file in the registry will be in the key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Security\SecureOutlookTempFolder

but I don't want to you change that.
